Market access intern Chloé on her internship at e&a consultants

After nine months, Chloé’s internship at e&a consultants has come to an end, the perfect opportunity for her to look back on the highlights and learnings of this period with her supervisor, Arne. 

Chloé, why did you choose to follow an internship at e&a consultants?  

Chloé: “I looked for an internship where I could learn about market access in a way that was hands-on. I didn’t want to observe from the sidelines, I wanted to learn on the job and that’s exactly what e&a consultants offered.”

Arne: “That’s how our internship differs from other market access companies. We offer the space to experience market access yourself, in all its facets, as our consultants don’t have just one speciality but provide all-around support during the process.”

What was your personal highlight of the internship?

Chloé: “Hard to say, there were so many (laughs). What I loved most about the internship was that I could be involved in projects from start to finish, from the first meeting at the client’s office to delivering the final pricing or reimbursement dossier.”

Arne, what are the tasks an intern at e&a consultants will have? 

Arne: “We want to offer interns a full picture of what it means to be a market access consultant. That’s why we involve them in all facets of a project. That is also what makes our internship stand out from others: like our consultants, interns learn to provide all-around support in market access, as we do not specialise in one aspect of the process. At first, they’ll mainly offer assistance, but as they become more familiar with our processes, they’ll gradually be able to take the lead in a project.”

Market access is a topic unfamiliar to most students. How do you ensure a successful start to their internship?

Arne: “We onboard market access interns together with new employees, who are also new to the subject, through a series of trainings given by different team members. Afterwards, they can count on the support of colleagues, as we work in pairs with every project. This tandem approach allows us to learn from each other and helps strengthen the team spirit.

What kind of support can interns expect during the internship? 

Arne: “As the internship supervisor, I sit down with trainees every six weeks to evaluate expectations and discuss their planning on a weekly basis. Those evaluation moments are also opportunities for us to learn how our team can support them even better.”

Speaking of the team, Chloé, what was it like being part of the e&a team for nine months? 

Chloé: “They’re such a fun and inclusive team. Whenever I had a question, I could tap a colleague on the shoulder. I also got to partake in fun team building: a game of padel, a nice dinner or, as was the case this year, a workcation in Italy. I did not feel like an intern, but as a fully-fledged team member.”

Arne: “We want interns to feel included in our team, by joining fun team moments or even strategic meetings, as they can offer a fresh outside perspective on our operations. We love to hear their input and concerns.”

Finally, Chloé, would you recommend the internship and why so?

“If you’re interested in market access, I would definitely recommend it. At e&a consultants, you’ll get to experience what being a market access consultant is like in an open and supportive environment where you’re able to take up responsibilities and contribute as a full member of the team. Do not hesitate, I would say.”
